The sing-a-long movie experience has grown from humble, heart warming roots — the earliest known version started when a Scottish aged care worker handed out lyric sheets during a screening of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers so the residents could sing their hearts out. From there, the magic of singing together in a cinema spread like wildfire across the UK and beyond.

Now a global sensation, sing-a-long film events have delighted audiences in the USA, Canada, Europe, and right here in Australia, growing into a celebration of music, movies, and pure joy. And with Sing A Long Oz, we’re proud to bring this unique cinema experience to Aussie audiences with a local twist.

From The Sound of Music to Rocky Horror, Hairspray, Frozen, Grease, Beauty and the Beast, Moulin Rouge, The Greatest Showman, and more — these are the movies you know and love, with a whole lot more energy and interaction.

So, what actually happens at a Sing A Long Oz screening?

It’s simple: you become part of the show.
Whether you want to belt it out from the first note or sit back and hum along, our events are built around four core values:

You can dress up, cheer, laugh, boo (politely!), and let your voice soar. Join in as much or as little as you like — there’s no pressure, just permission to enjoy. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, a Sing A Long Oz event is a one-of-a-kind night at the movies where the audience is always part of the action.

THE SING A LONG OZ EXPERIENCE

THE PRE-SHOW PARTY

Before the film even starts, the fun begins!

Our live host takes the stage for a 30-minute interactive pre-show, leading the crowd through a vocal warm-up (so you're ready to hit those big notes), teaching a few signature dance moves, and introducing you to our much-loved interactive props bags.

You’ll also get the lowdown on the “magic moments” in the film — the times when everyone gets involved together — and you’ll have a chance to rehearse your cheers, boos, and maybe even a few cheeky wolf whistles. And of course, there’s our famous fancy dress competition, where the audience becomes part of the show before the movie even rolls.

FREE INTERACTIVE PROP BAGS

When you enter the auditorium, you’ll receive your very own Sing A Long Oz prop bag — free with your ticket. Inside are a set of themed goodies we’ll use throughout the film at specially marked “magic moments.” Our host will guide you through how and when to use each item during the pre-show so you’re ready to go when the action starts.

FANCY DRESS COMPETITION

We take costumes seriously (in the most fun way possible). During the pre-show, our host will invite adults in costume to strut their stuff on stage and show off their fabulous looks.

Due to health and safety regulations, children unfortunately can’t be brought up on stage, but don’t worry — we’ll still give them a moment in the spotlight from their seats, and make sure they get a round of applause that echoes down the aisles.

Want to stand out? Think outside the box. Sure, we love the classics — your Pink Ladies, nuns, and Freddie Mercurys — but it’s the wild, clever, or unexpected costumes that turn heads and steal the show.

THE INTERVAL

There’s usually a 20-minute intermission, giving you a chance to top up your drinks or stretch your legs. Most venues have a bar open throughout the evening (check with the venue ahead of time for specific details).

When can I grab tickets?

If the date’s listed on our site (and doesn’t say On Sale Soon), you’re good to go! Hit the booking link next to your show and you’ll be taken directly to the venue’s box office or booking page to lock it in.

How do I know if tickets are still available?

Easy! Just click the Book Now button next to your preferred date— it’ll take you straight to the venue’s site, where you can check availability and buy tickets. Or, if you prefer the old-school way, give the venue’s box office a call.

Please note: Tickets are only sold through Ticketek or Tickemaster , not directly via Sing A Long Oz.

Who can come? What age are the shows suitable for?

We list the film rating next to each show title — and you can find it again on the individual show’s page.

That said, some of our pre-show hosting may include a few cheeky adult jokes, so even for PG or M-rated films, we suggest 15+ for full enjoyment, especially for shows rated as such.

Also worth noting: due to the contents of our interactive prop bags, none of our shows are suitable for children under 36 months (we love toddlers, but tiny hands and party poppers don’t mix).

How long does the show run for?

All shows include a 30-minute pre-show with our live host, and most include a 20-minute interval — unless noted otherwise.

What’s inside the free interactive prop bags?

That’s part of the fun! Each show has its own specially themed bag filled with goodies you’ll use at different points during the movie (our host will explain it all beforehand).
